ReGuLation of Kidney Functions…
Posted on June 19th, 2010 at 9:01 am by nishef07

Kidneys adjust volume and osmolarity of  urine based on water and salt balance and rate of urea production:
– High salt intake and low water supply: increased excretion of salt and urea with minimum loss of water

– Low salt intake and high fluid intake: increased urine excreation without loss of salts

Hormonal ReguLation of Kidney Functions…….

1. Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH)

Produced by hypothalamus, released by pituitary gland controlled by osmoreceptors sensitive to blood osmolarity

2. The Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS)

Juxtaglomerular Apparatus (JGA): Located near arterioles that supply blood to glomeruli

3. ANF/ANP (From atrium)

Another Hormone: Atrial Natriuretic Factor (ANF) opposes RAAS

ANF is released by an increase in blood volume andd pressure. it inhibits renin release from JGA..
